Pirate Themed Classroom

Ahoy There Me Hearties!  Many of you have told me that you plan to have a pirate themed classroom this year.  This is such a fun theme!  This week I will be posting some of my ideas and printables to help you get started with this theme.

I use P.I.R.A.T.E. binders in my classroom to help keep us organized. Each child gets a 1" notebook.
This is the cover.  I laminate it with my Scotch laminator (so that I can reuse them for several years) and slide it in the front pocket of the binder.   I print out labels with each child's name and put them on the spine of the binder.  Click on the cover to download it.
Inside the binder I put the agendas that our school requires us to use,  a zippered pouch for when they need to bring money and several copies of the following notes.  I run the absence notes on turquoise copy paper and I run the change in transportation notes on a different colored paper.   When a parent fills out one of the notes they take it out of the three ring section and place it in the front pocket which is labeled  Notes from School and Home.  You can click on the notes to download them.

Sorry y'all I know this isn't much!  Consider it a teaser.  This is a busy holiday weekend so this is all I have time to post tonight.  AAAAARRRRRGH!  :)

  1. I LOVE pirates. I don't start the year with them but I do end the year with them. :) It is always fun to find some pirate goodies, or should I say some pirate booty! :)

  5. I love your binder! I'm doing fish next year with the acronym F.I.S.H. "Family Involvement Starts Here"on my school folders for the students, but I love the idea of using a binder each year with the notes and the pockets for money, etc. I'll have to keep this in mind for the future. (I've already made my folders for this year!!)

  16. This year I am using a Pirate theme. Love the idea of the absence form and change of trasnportation form. Since I now use the poly folders (cheaper)- get some from a school supply store for 99 cents that are heavier than the ones from Target and other stores. For those that use the folders- just add two sheet protectors- 1 for the absence forms and 1 for the excuse forms. I always have sheet protectors around. :)

  27. I love this cover and was hoping to use it in my 4th grade classroom (we do NC history and of course cover pirates). When I went to print it out the words showed up as a big black blur. Is this supposed to happen or just my computer?

  28. Hi Taylor, you just need to update your PDF program and it will fix that problem. If you are using a mac make sure you are in reader not preview. :)

  29. So cute! I'm in Arkansas, where we had river pirates rather than seagoing buccaneers, but everybody loves a pirate, right?

  31. Mrs. Jump, first and foremost, I *love* everything you post. You have inspired me so much this last year! (It was my first year teaching kindergarten, and I loved it!) I, like Taylor Elise, am having the same issues. I am not technically savvy at all... I have a mac and do not know how to either update the pdf or use reader. If you have time to help, I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thank you so, so much! :)
