I've received numerous requests asking me to create a unit for this awesome book. I'm working on it and will have it ready by Thanksgiving. If you have a particular skill that you'd like to see represented in this packet you can send me an email at kindergartenteacher@cox.net
Happy Friday Y'all!

Can't wait to see it. We had to stop all Winter holiday units five years ago. Last year we got a new principal and now we can do it again:) I have my old ideas but am always looking for new ones.

We will begin teaching time and money in December... if you can somehow incorporate that into some math ideas that would be FANTASTIC! =) I can't wait to see your stuff! You are so good! Thanks for all you do!
ReplyDeleteAddition and Subtraction to 10. Sentence/Story Writing. Writing Prompts? That's all I've got! You are amazing, I aspire to be like you!!! This is my 5th year teaching K and I am nowhere near organized and having it all together but I will get there someday!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see it!! I love teaching with this book...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see numbers 10 - 20.
ReplyDeleteSimple addition and subtraction story problems.
CVC words and reading simple sentences using sight words.
Thanks!!!
I agree with the numerals 0-20, sight words, CVC words, writing prompts, and simple sentences. How about picture/word sort by beginning, medial, or ending sound? Love your stuff!
ReplyDeletepatterns and rhyming words please!! I'm always looking for things for my struggling learners!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait! I love all your units. We are working on your Thanksgiving Unit now and I love it! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say numbers 12-20, CVC, and rhyming words too! Love your activities and crafts--Thank You!

ReplyDeleteLove all the ideas above. I guess thinking about the book, I would love to see a little of the fun incorporated. Maybe have hot chocolate with a writing activity or thinking of the movie, wrapping presents (it could be a letter the students have written) and share it with another class in the building.
ReplyDeleteCould you include some comprehension skills, story structure format, word maps, some kind of reading diagrams that would relate to the story content.
ReplyDeleteThere is a pretty cool video on the website: www.storylineonline.net of this book. It is Lou Diamond Phillips reading it and some of the pages are animated. (There are other great books on the site as well -totally free!)
ReplyDeleteAwww, that is wonderful! I love your glyphs and so do my kids so a cute child with pajamas glyph would be lots of fun and a great data analysis resource!

Jenea, Great minds think alike! That activity is already ready to go. :) I LOVE glyphs and use them every chance I get!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a cute craft that is easy for my class to do without a lot of help. :) Also, I'd like to practice rhyming words and simple sentence structure. And I bet you could make a cute Polar Express ticket! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait. We always do a polar express day. I love the hot chocolate and the golden tickets. We do the whole thing and create a fake train in our classroom.

Can't wait! We love Polar Express Day at our school. Maybe I'll make it Polar Express week in my room with all your fun stuff!!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing you unit. I plan to do Polar Express focused lessons. May include some geography.
ReplyDeleteLooking for some higher level activities for first graders. Math numbers to 50. Beginning place value. Addition facts to 12. Also, any activities that compare the movie with the book :) Love your units!
ReplyDeleteSo excited that you are doing a unit on this, I just planned our Polar Express day and think I'll make it into a weekly theme with your packet! Skills my kiddos are working on are coins, CVC words, beginning place value (tens and ones), and very simple addition and subtraction problems. We are also doing temperature in science, that would be fun to tie in to the hot chocolate and the cold north pole!
ReplyDeleteIs the Polar Express unit ready ?
ReplyDeleteI am waiting so anxiously for this unit, also. I really appreciate your great works. I am trying to plan ahead. Any thoughts about the unveiling date? Thanks Rebecca
ReplyDeleteI am too anxiously waiting. I know it will be as great as all the other units! :)
ReplyDeleteAnxiously waiting for Polar Express....any ideas on when it will be ready?
ReplyDeleteOur First Grade Polar Day is planned for the 19th. I hope to see your unit ready before then. Excited to see what is in it.
ReplyDeleteI am checking everyday for the Polar Express Unit! We are doing Polar Express next week and I would love to start getting things ready....any idea when you'll have it posted to purchase? As always, thank you for all your great units! They are huge time savers with fabulous ideas!! :)
