Here are a few new activities that we did this year....
We read, Can I have a Tyrannosaurus Rex, Dad, Can I please?
and wrote what we would do if we had a T-Rex.
I want a T-Rex so he can take me to the movies.
He would pick me up from school.
He would clean up my room. (I love all the labels she added)
He could help me go to sleep at night.
I want a T-Rex to play ball with me.
Next, we thought about something we really wanted and completed a Persuasive Writing Planning Sheet to help us convince our parents.
You can download a free copy of the writing sheet by clicking HERE
This is a Flow Map for the T-Rex story that we read. This visual really helps the little ones with retelling.

It's on sale now through Wednesday!
Have a happy weekend, y'all!
I'm on Spring Break next week! Woo-Hoo!!!

Your unit looks great! I'm buying that book just now!
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite unit of yours. My class absolutely loved it last year. I start this unit right after Easter and it culminates with a field trip to a dinosaur park. Can't wait! I highly recommend it.

Hi Shauna, Thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. I'm so glad you like the unit. :)
DeleteLooks like a must have! Thanks for including the writing planning sheet.

Teaching With Love and Laughter
very cool! That writing sheet is great! I can't help however but to be a bit downtrodden when I look at your kids' writing. My kids are no where NEAR that (well, I have 2 that are amazing, 5 or 6 that can do that and the rest are no where near:( Maybe it's the fact that I've gotten 7 new students since the end of December? Two which don't speak English and 3 that came really behind......
ReplyDeleteHey There, Don't let that get you down. You have to look at each little sweetie's progress. What did their writing look like when they first came to you? I'll bet that if you look at a beginning sample and compare it to now you will see HUGE progress!
DeleteI love this book. Very cute unit.

Wow-how fun! We're doing a dino unit next month-will definitely be using some of these ideas! Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteNotJustChild'sPlay
Did you make that big green dinosaur on the chart? I just want to take him home! He's adorable! Looks like your kids are really writing which shows all the hard work that has been done all year! Fantastic! I would love to have them next year in first grade!

Holy Moly the White House!!!!! You are AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteHi Jill, I would love to go to the White House. Unfortunately, the founder of TPT thinks he is very clever and he actually pulled off an April Fool's joke. Don't feel bad though! I got over 200 emails from people congratulating me. ;)

ReplyDeleteDeanna,
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOODNESS!!!!! I am so excited for you!!!! I just read the TPT Newsletter. You truly deserve this. Congratulations! I'm crying as I type this. This is so cool! You are the best!

Great Work!! As always :)
ReplyDeleteI really don't like April Fool's day :(
ReplyDeleteCan we petition for your White House visit to happen for real? You really are awesome and I'm really bummed.
Me, too! :(
DeleteHello all. I am so confused! I was so happy that TPT was getting recognized by the Obamas, and that somebody would be representing all of us. Is it not true? As a blind teacher, I have a talking computer that reads all of my email, and I just assumed this one was real. If somebody could let me know, that would be great.

Could you tell me whether evolution is covered in any of your units? Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI just read the TpT newsletter and want to congratulate you on your potential recognition by the Obamas! Upon reading the above e-mail I see that it might have been an April Fools joke? It's hard to believe that TpT would advocate such poor taste. Either way, please know that teachers nationwide admire your professionalism and your dedication to the teaching craft. Despite what some people outside of the education field may think, our profession is something only a select group of people can do well. Your leadership in education and your willingness to collaborate and promote other professionals that are talented too is something for all of us to aspire to! Know that whether or not the offer to the White House is something that comes to fruition, there are teachers nationwide who acknowledge and appreciate all that you do!
ReplyDeleteHi Meggan, Paul has a warped sense of humor! But, thank you so much for your sweet comments. I really appreciate you so much.
DeleteThe Persuasive Writing sheet is great and your kids writing is really awesome. Congrats. Renee
ReplyDeleteI love your Dinosaur unit! I can't wait to make the egg. Can you tell me where you got your dinosaur?
ReplyDeletelsslak@yahoo.com
Hi There, I've had the dinosaur since my 17 year old son was 6. I'm not sure where we got it from. Universal Studios, I think!
DeleteThank you for the cute freebie!!

Kindergarten Simplicity
Hi Deanna,
ReplyDeleteI just finished your farm unit with my class...it was a huge hit!
I am a newbie TPT'er/ blogger! Please visit my blog at www.kindergartenkraftskraziness.blogspot.com & check out my first EVER units...I made an ocean literacy & math unit...the literacy unit is FREE!! I would truly appreciate any advice, comments, suggestions you can give me for just starting out.
Thanks,
Jen
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI have a somewhat random question - what program do you (and/or other teachers) use to make the cute covers for your units? Do you just use word? I'm trying to streamline some of the centers that I've made in my class and I love the way these look!
Thanks in advance for any tips/advice that you can give!

I think, as teachers, we should introduce higher level words to our kindergartners. We call them adult words. Anyways, if we have an attitude that the words are to hard(over their head) we are short changing them. They love big words and they will use them in conversation correctly. It is all in your attitude and how you introduce it and if you use the words throughout the day. Also linking to another reader that the students will be able to make connections too. I say you are awesome and doing a super job. My hope is to some day get to meet you because you put the fun back into my teaching when we were getting bombarded with programs. Thanks. Keep on teaching girl. God knows how much you love those babies and He knows what a great job you are doing. That is the only thing and only person that matters in all of this. Have a wonderful week.
