Good News...... After next Wednesday I only have two more days of school left!
Bad News....First, I have to survive until then. :)
SERIOUSLY! What makes the last two weeks of school so tough.
The kids start acting all kinds of crazy and us teachers are just plain TIRED!!!
I think that this is God's way of helping us send those little ones off without it crippling us with sadness. Think about it.... we've spent 180 days with these little people. They've hugged us 1,000 times, told us they loved us and that we are the BEST Teacher EVER! We've watched them blossom into readers, writers and mathematicians. :) After all the time that we've spent with them it should be devastating to send them on to someone else to love and nurture. BUT.... WHAM! The last two weeks of school are so CUH-RAZY we are more than happy to wave goodbye on the last day of school.
Thank you God for allowing me to teach these little sweeties and thank you God for summer.
AMEN!
So....The last day of school we are having our Pirates and Parents picnic. It is an Open House of sorts and we decorate the room to showcase our learning. Here are a few pictures from last year. I will add the pictures from this year once we get the room decorated.
These are our pirate glyphs.
Pirate Science Experiment.
I am working on a recording sheet and directions for this. I will add it here as a free download this weekend.
Pirate cupcakes! ARRRRR!
Our crabs and crab nonfiction writing.
Rub a Dub Sub (from my Ocean unit)
Pout-Pout fish directed drawing and text to self connections.
Most of the ideas and activities shown above come from these units....

Cute, cute, cute! What a fun and memorable way to end the school year. Love it all, Deanna!

I could not agree more!!! Our last day is next Friday too and while the year flew by, these last two weeks feel like we've been running a marathon! Still love the little crazies though. I will be sharing your "summer prayer" with my team for a laugh tomorrow :)

Haha! EXACTLY! :)
DeleteDeanna- your stuff is always amazing! However, your beginning piece is what really hit me. My kiddos are being absolutely bonkers-"what? you want me to line up and follow you somewhere? and do it without talking the entire trip? we've never done THAT before!" I know that I will cry buckets on the last day (we go until June) but inside I will also be doing my little Summer Happy Dance! Thank you for being so REAL!

I have 14 more days!
ReplyDeleteI never knew that about the eye patch. I just figured some of them lost an eye in a sword fight!
Good luck with your last few days!
Hi, I am in complete agreement....my kiddos (who have been terrific all year long) are starting to bounce off the walls....and I'm almost too tired and worn out to keep up with them! To top things off, we only have 10 days left, but 4 of them are benchmark days...ugh!
ReplyDeleteFYI: I'm your newest fan! Love your blog!
To your beginning piece...AMEN!!! Tomorrow is our LAST day :) I have already started my happy dance...
ReplyDeleteKatrina
Oh, MY! I'm glad its not just me....b/c it's my normal sweetie pies that are now bouncing off the walls! I just created a post a few days ago making reference to YOUR little pirates that I had seen your website. You are so inspiring...I'd LOVE for you to stop by and see them!
ReplyDeleteHappy last few days....9 more, here! I'm a real sap this time of year, but am definitely ready for some vacay time...
You are so right about the craziness!! Today is my last day with the kiddos and I am totally exhausted and they are totally crazy!! This afternoon all the teachers in the school will gather on the bus pad and wave a final fair well for the summer, it is a tradition. We will be sad so see them go, but will be happy about the thoughts of the rest that is to come!! You can make it girl!!

So true about it becoming easier and easier to say good-bye to our classes! i love the pirates and learned something new about eye patches. Great ideas!

I agree about the craziness! On top of the craziness for me, I am being video taped this Tuesday because my district wants to tape quality teachers teachers for a back to school PD this fall. I just wish they would have realized that school is out in a week before they decided to tape me. Sigh... I hope my kinders can hold it together for thirty minutes.
ReplyDeleteGood luck finishing the year!

I bought your ocean unit and love it to pieces but I was wondering if you had a unit plan like you have had with some of your other units that I have bought from you. I really like how you share recommended books. I've been ebay searching for fiction and nonfiction books that I can use during the unit but I am not sure what some good ones are.
ReplyDeleteYour stuff is so cute! Love the pirate glyphs and I learned something new about why pirates wear the eye-patch...so cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Diane
Thanks for sharing so many great ideas and all in one post! I love the connections with the Pout, Pout Fish, one of my favorite books.
