Colorful Cats Unit Finally Posted

Hi Y'all!  Many of you have been asking me about the Pete the Cat unit.  Sadly, the publishers decided that they didn't want teachers creating units to go with their book anymore so I created a new unit and added a ton of new stuff!

This unit will complement any unit on colors and will also go along with any cat themed stories you like to read with your students.

Here's a brief list of some of the things that are included in the unit.
*Three Reading Response sheets that can be used for any story
*Two Shared Reading Books with matching blackline emergent readers
* Colorful Cat glyph with directions and blackline patterns, data recording sheets, Glyph book, writing sheets & more!
* Mixed up sentences to go with the cat glyph
* Rainbow Milk Science Experiment with directions and recording sheets
* Four math games and activities
All of these activities are aligned with the Common Core and can be differentiated to meet the needs of your students.
Click on the cover page to check it out.  This unit will be on sale until Midnight tomorrow night.

  2. I respect the publisher's decision, but that makes me very sad thinking about all the business that these units created to go along with the books gives them. I bought Pete the Cat books because of bloggers' posts and units. Lame! :(

As always, your unit looks adorable! :) BTW, I just bought the two 3-drawer plastic organizers that you mentioned in your organizing session in Vegas and know exactly where I'm going to put them! Thank you for the idea! I hope that this will help me keep my out-of-control "paper fetish" in-control this year. ;)

    1. Cher, I totally agree with you! They have no idea how much business teachers bring to them. Glad you are getting organized! :)

  3. This looks really cute and fun Deanna! I'm sad to hear that more and more publishers are making these decisions :( So many of us base our teaching around these great texts! Yet another wonderful looking product :)

  4. Looks wonderful!!! So excited to purchase this! It really is silly on the publishers part because honestly I would never have been drawn nor probably purchased the books if it weren't for your original unit!

  5. Well...you know what they say..when life hands ya lemons...make a colorful cats unit, instead of a Pete the Cat unit! :) Thanks for putting this together...looks really sharp! :)

  7. I love it Deanna!! I am sad that the Pete the Cat people feel this way. I had never heard of Pete the Cat until reading your posts. You inspired me to buy every Pete the Cat book and even the Pete the Cat doll. I am glad you found a way to still post your amazing unit.

    1. I agree with Erica 100%. The first time I saw it on your blog I thought, "Pete the What?"

Now Good ole Petey and his colorful shoes and groovy buttons are part of my twins' bedtime routines.

I understand and I even read it to my 3rd graders right before the state test to emphasize how they can't let one question bog them down and need to move on to the next one with a positive attitude.

I can't imagine anyone would have bought your unit without also buying the book to go with it. I just added this unit to my cart to use with my girls at home. Love it! :) Jodi from The Clutter-Free Classroom

  8. Really cool! I am upset about the publisher's decision because I, too, bought the books because of the units on TPT and blogs. I just removed the newest book from my amazon cart. I have enough holiday books anyway! :) Thanks for your awesomeness.

  9. I was one of those people!!! :) I'm so glad you created something to "replace" it! Crazy that an author wouldn't want teachers to buy a unit based on their books, which would require them to BUY their books! :)

    Oh well! Looks fabulous!
Now, come to Tallahassee and set up my room for me! :)

  13. I absolutely love your cat pack!!! I'm especially crazy about the cat glyph!! Another great pack Deanna!! It's such a shame that publishers aren't letting teachers create units to compliment their books for kids to benefit from. Thanks!!

  14. Thanks Deanna. I just bought all of the other Pete books and have the christmas one in my Amazon cart as well. I agree with the teacher who said the publishers are crazy since we buy the books to go with the units. There is a new book out called "Won Ton". This is also a great story and told in haiku. I will order this cat unit today.

  16. Hi Deanna, I absolutely love all of your ideas! I just bought The Colorful Cats unit but haven't received my e-mail yet. The e-mail links usually pop up right away. I printed out my receipt just in case. Please let me know if anyone else had to wait a little while to get it. Thanks a bunch! ~Kerri :)

You don't have to wait for an email link. :) If you go to TPT and login to your account you will see a green tab at the top of the page that says MY PURCHASES. Click on the tab and then you will find download links for all of your items. Let me know if you need more help. I hope you like the unit. thanks so much! Deanna

  21. Hello Deanna! I've just found your blog through the First Grade Parade and I'm getting a lot of wonderful ideas! I'm wondering if you can tell me about the Chunks Challenege cards (?) that I saw on an old classroom photo from Cara Carrol...she said she got them free from your blog, but sadly after 2 hours of looking I haven't found them, and they are exactly what I'm looking for!! I'm wondering if I'd read earlier that they were part of a curriculum and couldn't be shared anymore? If so, can you tell me where I could find them so I can purchase them for my classroom? Thank you so much!
