Teaching Silent E

I have a few little sweeties who are still having trouble with Silent e. So I found a few videos on YouTube and I thought I'd share in case you need them too! A few of them are GOOFY! But kids seem to like the goofy ones the most. :)

  2. My Little Loves are OBSESSED with Super E! I let them pick 2 YouTube songs every morning during our calendar routine, and they seriously pick Super e EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. I'm going to show them the other ones you shared on Monday. Thanks!

  7. Just made magic e's this week in class! Now how do I save youtube videos to show in class b/c it's blocked at school?

    1. Go to www.keepvid.com and paste in the URL. Click "download". You can choose how to download it (mp4, FLV, 3GP). I insert them into a SMART slide and have a collection of phonics songs, math songs and other You Tube favorites. Good Luck!!

  9. I taught my kids that mean e reaches around the consonant and pinches the vowel so hard that the vowel screams it's name. And then e doesn't want to get in trouble so he hides behind the consonant and doesn't say a thing.
    It's really worked for them, and they remind me all the time about that mean pinching e! Even my kindergarteners could handle that last year!

    1. I love this idea. I have always referred to him as "Magic E". But I think my kindergarteners would love "Mean E".

  11. Love those videos! I call the e..bossy e. He reaches over the consonant and tells that vowel to say its name. Funny how little kids get bossiness so well )

  13. Thanks for sharing these! I was just at our Ohio Kindergarten Conference and one of our speakers was Kathy Griffin. I know, not the comedian.:) She has some great videos and activities to help studnets with the Silent E rule. My kiddos are loving every minute of it. You can check her out on Teachers Pay Teachers and at her blog. Just search for her but make sure to type Kathy Griffin Teacher or you'll get a whole lot of information about the comedian.
